The Most Rewarding (and Challenging) 7 Years So Far...

Seven years ago to this very minute (approx. 11:30 pm) I was in excruciating pain. In fact, for the 48 hours leading up to this timeframe (in 2004), I was having continuous contractions in 5-10 minute intervals which either had me on the phone with my ob-gyn around the clock or rushing to the hospital (twice) only to find I wasn't dilating. And so, I was sent home. How utterly frustrating and painful it was!!

But seven years ago, in about 2 hours (head spinning yet?), I was in the hospital and dilated to a glorious 2 cm! So I got to claim my room in the Little Company of Mary Hospital and most importantly, get my EPIDURAL!! Once that was in place, I have to admit, it was a relatively easy delivery. And again, most importantly, pain-free. At 7:30 am, January 28, 2004, I finally got to hold my baby Jaden in my arms. For almost 72 hours, I was kept wide awake and on high alert, waiting for Jaden to make his way into the world. He proved that when he was ready, he made his safe and punctual arrival (right on his due date!) And boy, did he make his arrival known with the strongest set of lungs I had ever heard on a little human. He was absolutely worth all of it and more.

In many ways, Jaden's first 7 years have been just like his labor. His sensitivity and emotional temperament continue to keep me on high alert. He is, to this day, very vocal and not at all afraid to use his words. (Though they often get muffled in between his tears). When I need for him to listen, do something or get ready by a certain time, he is constantly dawdling and pretty much ignoring me. And just at that moment I am ready to turn myself in to Child Protective Services as a preventative measure, he goes and brushes his teeth AND makes his bed in the morning. Or he goes and holds his sister to comfort her (granted, after he made her cry). Or he reminds Steve and me that "You should be responsible for your things too" when we're halfway down the block and realize we forgot something so we have to turn back to the house.
Yup, absolutely worth all of it and more.

Blogging could be my Rx Plan :)

My quarterly ritual this evening of uploading photos from my camera onto the computer has just confirmed that I am an ADHD photo taker. Why, you ask? Well, because #1) most of the time I find I get easily distracted being a participant in an event that I completely forget to take pictures at all (uh, I took no pictures on Christmas DAY and missed half of New Years). #2) When I do manage to pull out my camera, it's as though I take pictures for the sake of taking pictures so my shots end up looking, shall we say..impulsive. Heeeeeeyyyyy...this is starting to sound like a typical day at work. So, obviously I need structure. I could use a purpose. Maybe I'll give blogging a try after all. ;)

My sister gave me my first lesson on how to post photos onto a blog tonight so I'm going to do a practice run.

2011 New Year's Resolution?

Inspired by my sister, I am making an attempt at joining the blogging world. I've never been the one in my family to be disciplined in documenting life through pictures (sadly, even my own children's) and on the rare occasions that I do, I'm really lax at downloading photos and actually doing anything with them. !! But I'm thinking 2011 could be a year for change. I have 2 weeks to think about it I'll keep you posted..literally?
